Step 1: Attaching to Sidewall Using Large Tailgate Seal

Start 1” below the truck bed floor and attach Large Tailgate Seal to the rear corner edge of the left sidewall extension (FIG 1A). Applying light pressure to the adhesive, flush the seal to the side of the bed floor and gradually curve it up 2”. Continue straight up, applying light pressure to the adhesive, and stop when 6” from the rubber stop. Keeping the adhesive off the surface, mark the seal where it will be flush with the bottom of the rubber stop. Cut at a 45° angle (FIG 1B). Continue up to the rubber stop and apply light pressure to the adhesive. Close the tailgate and inspect from the inside to see whether light is visible through the sidewall (FIG 1C). Open the tailgate and make adjustments by removing and repositioning the seal. Once the seal is positioned, apply very firm pressure (25 lbs.) to secure the adhesive bond. Duplicate for the right sidewall.

Step 2: Attaching to Top of Sidewall Using Large Tailgate Seal

Do not remove the adhesive liner. Take the roll of seal and flush the 45° angle to the top of the rubber stop (FIG 1B). Determine where the adhesive will be applied based on FIG 1B, 2A, and 2B. Put on a protective glove and apply the enclosed adhesion promoter where the adhesive will be applied. Allow 90 seconds to dry. Remove the adhesive liner and attach the seal. NOTE: The adhesion promoter creates an instant bond, so do not attempt to remove or reposition the seal. When nearing the top of the sidewall extension, gradually rotate the seal 90° counterclockwise as you proceed upward. When even with the top of the bedrail, the top of the seal should face inward and the taped side should be flush with the sidewall of the bedrail (FIG 2C). Cut off the excess seal. Once the seal is positioned, apply very firm pressure (25 lbs.), especially at the rotation points, to secure the adhesive bond. Duplicate for the right sidewall.

Step 3: Attaching to Side of Tailgate Using Standard Tailgate Seal

Cut a 3.125” piece of Standard Tailgate Seal. Remove the liner and attach it to the side of the tailgate at the top, with the bulb side facing upward (FIG 3A). Apply light pressure to the adhesive. Close the tailgate. If you see light through the sidewall, remove and reposition the seal. NOTE: For larger gaps, substitute Large Tailgate Seal and apply it with the bulb side either up or down. Once the seal is positioned, apply very firm pressure (25 lbs.) to secure the adhesive bond. Duplicate for the right sidewall.

Step 4: Attaching to Tailgate Bottom Gap Using Standard Tailgate Seal

Most often, the bulb side is up for the Tundra (FIG 1A and 4B).

To evaluate the best position for the tailgate gap, cut a 1” (2.5 cm) test piece. Align the top of the bulb with the truck bed floor, attaching the adhesive underneath the lip of the truck bed floor liner. Stand to the side of the truck and raise the tailgate until the bulb makes contact with it.

NOTE: Compression or slight rolling of the bulb is acceptable. However, if the bulb rolls downward so far that you can see the tape as the tailgate closes, the seal has rolled too much. This can place additional stress on the adhesive and cause separation.

If the bulb rolls too much, invert the 1” test piece so the bulb side is down. Raise the tailgate and make sure no light is visible through the test area. Adjust the piece higher or lower to seal out the light. After determining the direction and position of the bulb, remove the test piece and pick up one end of the continuous seal. Starting at either end, peel back a section of liner and flush the end of the Standard Tailgate Seal to the Large Tailgate Seal on the sidewall (FIG 1A). Attach it in sections and apply light pressure to the adhesive. Flush it to the Large Tailgate Seal on the opposite sidewall and cut it to fit. Apply very firm pressure (25 lbs.) to secure the adhesive bond.
